Which Saree is Best for Wedding?

What do you recall when someone says ‘Indian wedding’? Food, fun, and attire, right? Well, for me, Indian weddings are a saga of bridal saree and her charisma. India is such a nation where brides across different states wear different traditional sarees for their weddings. For instance, the gorgeous affair of Zari and silk on Banarasi sarees are the conventional attire for Bengali weddings. On the other hand, the glamorous Kanchipuram sarees complement the archness of the South Indian brides.

The wedding season is due soon. So, the would-be-brides must be super excited and confused about the different bridal saree options available to them. Bride army, worry no more as I’m here to share with you all about the best sarees for your wedding.

Which Saree is Best for Wedding?

So which saree is best for wedding? Well, in my opinion, if you aspire to carry a traditional outfit, then go for the elegant silk sarees like Banarasi and Kanjivaram. Whereas, for the ladies who are dreaming of a fairy-modern appearance, the attires like net and lace sarees and Chikankari sarees are the premium choices.

The tales of wedding saree collection do not end here. I have a lot more to share about the sarees for bride and the ways to carry them perfectly on your D-day.

Latest Wedding Sarees in Fashion

Among a plethora of types of sarees for wedding, I thought to put down all of the latest in-trend wedding sarees for the upcoming Shaadi season. Let’s dive in.

1.    Banarasi Saree

The Banarasi silk sarees echo the grandeur of intricate Zari-work. I feel that these gorgeous sarees can be styled either way – conventionally and contemporarily. The silk saree holds the potential to glam you up in all ways of draping as well. Available in a wide range of colorful hues and motifs, you can choose any Banarasi saree, drape it dreamily, and achieve the best Indian bridal look.

2.    Kanjivaram Saree

Never mistake to consider a masterpiece Kanjivaram as the trademark attire for the south Indian brides. Irrespective of your origin, Kanjivaram silk sarees are made to suit every one of you. Also known as Kancheepuram sarees, the Kanjivaram silk sarees carry beautiful thread work to create natural motifs.

3.    Assam Silk Saree

Another addition to the collection of silk sarees for wedding is the graceful Assam silk sarees. The gorgeous affair of ivory, white, and gold in these sarees get a bridal fine-tuning with an impeccable red border running through the fabric's length.

4.    Lace Saree

Right after the traditional outfits for the bride, let us migrate towards the contemporary saree options. The premium in-trend modern saree is the net or lace sarees. The white monochrome hues of these attires provide you nothing less than the ‘Cinderella' appearance that every girl has dreamt in her childhood for sure.

5.    Chikankari Saree

Just as the Lucknawi Chikankari was getting forgotten, the fashionistas worked hard to revive the art and brought the Chikankari sarees into the list of trending wedding sarees for the year. The subtle pastel palettes of Chikankari sarees are suitable not only for the nuptial ceremony but also blend perfectly in other marriage rituals as well.

Sarees for Summer Wedding

I know how difficult it becomes to carry a heavy wedding saree for the day-long in summers. But there are some breathable and lightweight wedding sarees available too that keep you cool and comfortable during the summer weddings.

1.    Sheer Sarees

Everyone, even the celebs, are going gaga behind the glamorous sheer sarees. These sarees are an ultramodern amalgamation of cool fabric and contemporary designs. You have the option to rise to the embroidered and sequined sheer sarees that are extremely lightweight and best for glamming up your bridal look at the summer wedding.

2.    Silk Sarees

Silk sarees are lightweight. If pinned properly, you can easily manage the attire for the entire day. Draping the silk sarees is an art, and the crisp saree pleats are the epitome of beauty. Apart from being comfortable and airy, the silk sarees fit snuggly to provide you a slim and tall appeal.

3.    Blended Silk Sarees

The blended silk sarees are a step above the ordinary silk attires. For the brides who love to innovate new looks, I feel the blended silk sarees are the perfect option for them. These sarees look beautiful, elegant, and uplift the feminine figure of the brides while keeping them comfortable and cool.

How to Wear Wedding Saree Perfectly?

The beauty of sarees lies in the art of draping. A suitable draping style uplifts the beauties of any wedding saree, and the bride as well. Not all sarees can be draped similarly. Some sarees look glamorous when pleated, while open pallu suits some others. Before you jump into your Shaadi preparations, have a look at the various styles of draping a wedding saree.

1.    Pleated Pallu

Pleats provide you a neat and crisp bridal look. They also provide an extra slimming and tall look than the open fall outfits. Pleats and traditional jewelry go hand-in-hand. Though the pleats enhance your natural curves, carrying a waist girdle can further highlight your waistline.

2.    Open Pallu

Open pallus look extremely graceful and suit all wedding ceremonies, especially the receptions and wedding parties. If you are slightly on the chubbier side, open pallus can make you appear a little bulkier sometimes.

3.    Maharashtrian Draping

Who doesn't love a peppy Maharashtrian bride carrying a Paithani saree draped the Maharashtrian way? I am sure everybody! Going off-the conventional saree wearing in a pleated or open pallu style, you can opt for wearing your wedding attire in the Maharashtrian style.

4.    Bengali Draping

Coming next is another wedding hit for the season – the Bengali draping style. According to me, the Banarasi sarees look adorable when draped in the Bengali way. If you drape your wedding saree in such a manner, you get a variety of makeup and accessorizing options for experimentation.

Wedding Saree Colors

All the bridal sarees are unique on their own. Every color, every style, every design reflects the expert kaarigari and creativity in the best manner. However, if you are somewhat picky about the wedding saree colors as per the skin shades, then I have some suggestions with me.

Wedding Saree Colors for Dark Skin

The dark hues are perfect for dark skin ladies. The wedding sarees in the shades of dramatic grey, dark purple, golden, royal blue, bright violet, and teal green are the uniquely best options for the higher skin tone ladies out there.

Wedding Saree Colors for Fair Skin

Fair skin ladies have a plethora of wedding saree colors lined up to choose from. Ivory, brick red, cobalt blue, turquoise, mustard yellow, green, and magenta are the most in-trend and suitable saree colors for brides with fair complexion.

By now, you must be prepared with the right saree option(s) for your nuptial ceremony. But how do you style the attire to look different than the others? Apart from draping perfectly, you can mismatch and play with different accessories. Assimilate gajra, smoky eyes, heavy kajal, waist girdle, heavy oxidized jewelry, or statement blouses into your wedding look to attract even more eyeballs. While you experiment with the accessories and wedding saree blouse designs, ensure that there is a delicate balance of too much and too little spread throughout.
